Based on the video that looks like an accurate description of what the lovely Paris Hilton did over the weekend to a crowd of 30,000 people at the Pop Music Festival, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Although, she looked stunning (she has that going for her) Hilton definitely killed any attempt at trying to seriously pursue a career as DJ.
What it looks like honestly is, me in my room on any given night, dancing like no one is watching, singing at the top of my lungs, with headphones on pretending I was a DJ. In my head. I’m a rockstar!
Granted the video is only a small snippet of an hour long set (sorry again Brazil) I believe this is what went on for most of it. She waved the Brazilian flag…which is awesome, but, we know where you are, and it’s not a NASCAR event. She tried to MC, but I don’t think too many people were into it. She danced to her own songs, I can’t even be mad, I’d dance to my own music too. She pushed some buttons and turned some knobs. Enough said.
I’ve said it before that being a DJ is a craft that people work hard at all the time to try and perfect. They will never be satisfied because there’s always that something extra that can be pulled out of a new creation. Learning with the proper tools at hand, teachers, jargon and immersing yourself in the culture of DJ, spending countless hours trying to make the general public understand you through beats, is what they do. Hilton did none of that.
I’m all for trying something new and experimenting with endeavors out of your comfort zone, but to do it because you can in front of what real struggling DJ’s would kill for the opportunity for is a slap in the face. To get your name out there and be recognized because you moved someone and gave them chills is the payoff. I don’t think I heard a sound from the audience in that whole video.
You would think that being in the company of Afrojack and associated with David Guetta among others, it would have turned out better than it did…but it didn’t. At the end of the day…money just can’t buy good talent.
Here’s part of her DJ set, what do you think?
